Dance and the Child

a) Arts In Education

There is a growing awareness of the importance of an arts education programme as part of the academic curriculum in schools. Montreal Culture –an organization based in Quebec, has this as one of its areas of interest. This policy directing project will focus on how dance and in particular Bharata Natya, can be featured in this kind of initiative.

b) Making Bharata Natya child-friendly

How to make training, teaching and performing more age-appropiate so that young dance students below a certain age can relate to and therefore enjoy the learning process. Material development is one of the key elements in this project.

c) Active involvement with daCI, Canada

Raise the awareness within the Indian dance community of the International organization Dance and the Child International (daCi). Help generate a better understanding of the work being done by daCi and build enthusiasm to get involved with and contribute to its activities, leading to a participation of some of the SRC group in the Daci Conference of 2006.
