Mapping the Choreographic Landscape
a) Explorations in Bharata Natya Choreography: From Margam to Troupe perfomances
As the title suggests, this project deals with the evolution of the choreographic landscape at Kala Bharati. Based on the Kala Bharati experience, the project traces earlier choreographies in the solo format to group presentations of items from the traditional Margam in its repertoire. It also delineates the process involved in creating pieces specifically suited for a male dancer, such as Padukarchana, Arjuna etc. Explorations in group formations creating pathways in time and space that have led to innovative choreographies such as Seasonscape, Kriya Marga, Dansjazz-Ku etc will be included in the project.
b) Choreography Lab
In the true spirit of sharing, it has been proposed by two of the SRC participants, Punam Kumar of Calgary and Aparna Kesaviah of Boston, that meetings be held at regular intervals in different cities, hosted by other SRC participants, in which choreographers will propose their ideas with a view to discuss them with others. |
